Garcia Will Not Run for Gene Green Seat, Goes for Harris County Commissioner

December 6, 2017

Former Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia will apparently not run for the US 29th Congressional District seat being vacated by Gene Green.

Garcia had been rumored to be among the top contenders for Green’s post as US representative for the largely hispanic district, but announced Tuesday he will run for Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner against incumbent Jack Moran.

Green, who served more than 25 years representing the 29th, which includes prime oil and gas properties, faced Garcia in 2016.

Both are Democrats.

Green won by 19 percentage points, leaving Garcia to rebuild political ties after disappointing some with his resignation as county sheriff to unsuccessfully run for mayor of Houston and then for the 29th seat.

For 2018, Harris County state Representative Sylvia Garcia and State Representative Carol Alverado are contenders for the 29th district seat.

Houston-area Texas Representative Armando Walle had announced he would run for the 29th, but has since dropped out.
