The number of active commercial US oil rigs is down this week by five, according to Friday’s weekly report from Baker Hughes GE, for a total 742.
The nation’s gas-rig count was unchanged at 182 in the past week
The oil and gas rig total is now 924, with Wyoming gaining two rigs and New Mexico and Texas each gaining one in the past week.
Louisiana lost six rigs, Oklahoma declined by two and North Dakota lost one.
The overall total is much higher than a year ago when only 529 active rigs.
The U.S. offshore-rig count was down one from last week to 17, which is seven fewer than a year ago.
