Austin, Texas — Local environmental advocates, business leaders, and elected officials will rally on Tuesday, February 6 at 3:30 PM to send a clear message to the Trump administration that more offshore drilling is not welcome off Texas’ coast.
In early January, Donald Trump and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke released a draft offshore drilling plan that proposed an unprecedented expansion of offshore drilling into nearly all of America’s waters, from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico.
For Texas, the five-year leasing plan proposes no buffer or exclusion for any part of the Western Gulf, even as the Trump administration looks to rollback important safety provisions put in place in the wake of the BP Deepwater Horizon spill.
The crowd, many dressed in beach wear, will gather outside the administration’s public hearing on the draft plan — the only hearing scheduled in Texas — to highlight the threats offshore drilling poses to our coastline, climate, marine ecosystems, and the health and economic well-being of our communities. After rally, members will enter Embassy Suites and reject Trump’s Drill-friendly plan.
WHAT: Texas Tells Trump: No More Offshore Drilling Off Our Coasts
WHEN: 3:30 PM, Tuesday, February 6th
