Spanish Company Prepares Second Texas Wind Farm

April 10, 2018

Spanish renewable company ACCION Energia is building its second wind farm in Texas with a $200 million investment.

The new Palmas Altas project will be close to the San Roman wind farm in Cameron County, north of Brownsville, that powered up in December 2016.

The company said Monday its newest farm will produce about 524 GWh each year, the equivalent to consumption of 43,000 households.

Over its 25-year lifespan, Palmas Altas is expected to generate $40 million in local tax revenue, as well as more than $44 million in lease payments to local landowners and will be sold in the ERCOT South Texas wholesale market.

ACCION — one-third owned by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts — has 164 wind farms in nine nations, including three in Oklahoma.
