Texas’s Don Willett is not on the short list of President Trump‘s choices for nominee to the US Supreme Court.
Three federal judges are among those under consideration to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Texas Supreme Court Justice Willett — now a circuit judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit — was on Mr. Trump’s original list of considerations for Supreme Court justice.
According to an unnamed source telling the Associated Press, the top contenders are federal appeals judges Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh and Raymond Kethledge.
At 46, Barrett is the youngest of them.
In June, President Trump said he wants someone who could potentially serve 40 years.
“We have to pick a great one, we have to pick one that’s going to be there for 40 years, 45 years,” Trump said at a rally in Fargo, N.D.
