Noble Energy says it’s trying to find out why three of their Reeves County oil production tanks caught fire about 3:45 am Wednesday.
No one was reported injured; an emergency shutdown system stopped the flow of oil immediately, the Houston-based company said Wednesday afternoon.
The Pecos Volunteer Fire Department were among the authorities at the tanks, and they, together with Noble representatives, decided to allow the fire to burn off oil until it was out, which likely wouldn’t be until sometime on Thursday.
Noble said, in a statement, that all its employees were safe and company experts were at the fire to monitor progress and begin an investigation into possible causes of the blazes, which are about 75 miles southeast of Midland.
