Texas legislative veteran, UT and Texas State alumna Jennifer Grossenbacher Jones is the new appointment and the first female to head the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
She’s been serving as acting director since last September, when Ken Levine retired, and has been working with the committee since 1993.
Over the years she’s been a policy analyst and assistant director for the committee, working up to deputy director in 2013, managing and supervising Sunset reviews across major policy areas.
Jones currently serves on the National Conference of State Legislatures Executive Committee, Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee, and Natural Resources and Infrastructure Standing Committee.
She’s a native Texan with a master’s in public administration from Texas State University and a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin.
In a statement, Jones said, “I am deeply honored by this appointment and I look forward to serving the Sunset Commission and leading our talented staff in identifying ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness in Texas state government.”
Sunset Commission Chairman state Senator Brian Birdwell said, “Jennifer has performed her duties as acting director at an extremely high level, and we have no doubt she will continue to be tactically and technically proficient while serving the Sunset Commission and leading the agency.”
