Former State Rep. Mike “Tuffy” Hamilton Dies

November 8, 2019

Former state representative Mike “Tuffy” Hamilton has died following a heart attack last week.

State Rep. Dade Phelan Tweeted the news today, adding “Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

“Services are pending.”

Mr. Hamilton was 58.

A Republican, he was known as “Tuffy” since he owned Tuffy’s Restaurant in Mauriceville starting in 1990.

A Lamar University graduate, he was also later a president of the Texas Restaurant Association.

He had triple bypass surgery in 2010 and was reported by the Beaumont Enterprise as having been in the ICU at a local hospital last month recovering from a heart attack.

He represented the 19th district — including Hardin, Newton and Orange counties — from 2003-2012 but lost to James White in the republican primary election in 2012.

In 2014, Hamilton announced he was running in an election for Orange County judge, but he lost that election, according to the Enterprise.
