US Senator Introduces Resolution to Keep Presidents from Banning Fracking

November 13, 2019

A Pennsylvania Republican US senator has introduced a resolution aimed at keeping future presidents from banning fracking.

Sen. Pat Toomey announced on Monday that his Senate Resolution 411 would declare that states that have exclusive regulatory authority over fracking for natural gas, adding that the president would need the support of Congress to exercise any executive authority to ban the technique.

It’s a response to Democratic presidential candidates who have said they intend to ban fracking if elected next year.

Toomey admitted that even if his resolution should pass the Senate it probably wouldn’t make it through the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives, but added he believes it still has bipartisan support.
