The CEO of Central Texas’ Pedernales Electric Cooperative, the largest distribution cooperative in the US, has been named one of “Austin’s Best CEOs” by Austin Business Journal among non-profits.
Since taking the post in late 2017, Julie Parsley has fostered collaboration among the executive team, the publication wrote in an October 3rd article, and “hired an executive vice president role to oversee public affairs, communications, community engagement and legislative affairs” to increase transparency.
Ms. Parsley has an extensive legal background and was the first female solicitor general of Texas (going before the US Supreme Court and the Texas Supreme Court) and has been a member of the charitable Texas Bar Foundation for 20 years, while maintaining a commitment to public service, including volunteering for the Central Texas Food Bank and other charities.
And since Ms. Parsely joined the coop, which has over 700 employees, 320,000 accounts and provides electricity to more than 1 million residents, has been recognized by J.D. Power, the Austin American-Statesman, National Cooperative Bank and the Texas Public Power Association‘s system, according to the journal, which selected her from among 90 candidates.
In the Austin Business Journal article, Parsely credits her maintaining professional relationships over the years that have proven valuable to her experience as Pedernales’ CEO, and extends the advice that, “If you are not challenging yourself, then you are not moving yourself forward. If you find a job you’re interested in, don’t wait until you have the qualifications or experience you think you should have. You must believe in yourself and not be afraid to take that next step.”
The Texas Public Power Association named Pedernales winner of its 2019 System Achievement Award.
The Austin American-Statesman named PEC the best electrical company in 2018.
